Most of our hiking sites are less than 2000 ft. above sea level where we
can hike on ice in the warmth of an Alaskan summer. No need to pack extra
gear for your trip. We will provide everything that you need for your time on
the glacier.
  • Rain and wind proof jacket and pants – A lightweight layer to help keep you comfortable in southeast Alaska's climate where it is often rainy and breezy.
  • Hard-shell mountaineering boots – provide great support for ankles and feet and a rigid sole for use with crampons.
  • Trekker in Ice Tunnel
  • Pack with tissues, water and an energy bar – tissues to tame any runny noses, water and an energy bar to keep you going. The pack has extra room for cameras, wallets, and other small items you may want to bring along
  • Trekking pole or ice axe – Trekking poles are used on the Level 1 Trek to provide additional stability while on the ice. An ice axe, used on the Level 2 & 3 Treks serves the same purpose, but is designed for variable terrain.
  • Gloves- keep hands warm and protect them from the ice surface which can be abrasive.
  • Crampons – these are the greatest! They give you great traction on the ice and are easy to learn to walk in.
  • Gaitors –are used on the Level 2 and 3 Treks to keep pant legs and shoe laces tucked in neatly so that they don't get snagged by crampon points.
  • Helmet – used in the Level 2 and 3 Treks, a helmet is just a safety measure to protect your head.
  • Harness with a carabiner – used on the Level 2 and 3 Treks, the harness is a safety measure and is a convenient place to attach your ice axe. Our X-Trekkers (Level 3) also use the harness when they ice climb.
